Season Of Ups And Downs
The off-season for the 49ers started off with them acquiring superstar WR Andre Johnson from the Panthers for young CB Joe Haden. Andre Johnson started off a little slow but has really helped them when they have needed him the most, pulling in 110 yards against the Saints in week 2 and at this point has 3 100 yard games in a row including a 118 yard performance in a 1 point win against the Dolphins.

The most controversial move of the season came when they traded most of their draft, WR Lee Evans and MLB Dan Connor in exchange for superstar LB Shawne Merriman who they instantly moved to MLB. With Merriman, Demarcus Ware and Xavier Adibi at LB they have one of the best LB cores in the league.

The Packers were looking for a partner to deal WR Marques Colston when San Francisco traded their last pick in the first 4 rounds (a second) to acquire him and add him to a WR core that included Johnson, Devery Henderson and Dez Bryant. With 4 really solid WRs they dealt Henderson along with beastly DE Charles Grant and always great TE Antonio Gates to acquire DE Greg Hardy, WR Golden Tate, TE Cade Anderson, HB Santana Thomas and a 3rd round pick from the Jaguars.

To help the O-Line they added Jon Jansen to play LT for them after they couldn't find a suitable player to play that this season. After taking care of the Offense they signed DT Casey Hampton and FS Quentin Jammer (the second after Rashad Johnson went down for the season) to help the D.

This team has had a lot of success with bringing players in to help them, but they have been hit hard by the injury bug. Franchise QB Tate Forcier went down in week 5 and didn't return until the week 12 win against the Dolphins, Larry Powell came in and played pretty well in the absence of Forcier compiling with a completion % of 51.91 throwing for 1340 yards and throwing 6 TDs and only 4 INTs. They lost CB Terrence Wheatley for week 9 and lost starting HB Shonn Greene for a total of about 8 weeks. How could things have gotten worse, well how about losing ur starting star FS for the season, followed by losing ur starting KR/PR and a guy that has had 3 KR TDs in 4 seasons. Sammie Stroughter will miss 3 weeks and the 49ers have signed WR Eugene Wall to try to fill the gap left by Stroughter's injury.

As it is the 9ers are in 6th place in the NFC and staring at their first playoff appearance in many years. They need to beat the Rams, Bears and possibly the games against the Vikings, Cards and Lions to even have a chance to make the playoffs in the rough and tough NFC.

San Fran Set For Run
The San Francisco 49ers have made a ton of changes this offseason, most of which happened on the Offensive side of the ball. The 2 biggest Offensive upgrades this offseason were WR Calvin Johnson and HB Rashard Mendenhall. Calvin is planned to be the #1 with Dez Bryant at 2 and fellow offseason addition Devery Henderson in the slot. Mendenhall is anticipated to be the #1 back but should split carries with returning back Shonn Greene. Rookie QB Tate Forcier is expected to battle with second year QB Juice Williams for the starting QB slot. The O-Line had a few changes with LT Jake Long being shipped out and 2 rookies brought in to try to replace him. With O-Line being a big concern and missing out on QB Marc Bulger in FA the 49ers are in talks with 4 Lineman about joining the team to try to help build holes for Mendenhall and Greene to run through. Larry Allen, Jonathan Ogden, Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen are all expected to sign and contribute for the 49ers this season.

The D wasn't in much need of upgrading, but they still found room in the offseason budget to improve there too. Returning is the entire secondary with no changes except with backups. The linebacking core had 1 change with LOLB DeMarcus Ware joining Pro Bowl OLB Xavier Adibi and MLB Dan Connor (who had a season ending injury last season). The D-Line saw DPOTY winner Charles Grant return with Kyle Vanden Bosch, but joining them at DT will now be Richard Seymour who took the place of Jamal Williams who they didn't have the money to resign.

With all their moves this offseason and trading their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks in next years draft it is obvious that the 9ers are planning to make a push at the NFC West and are hoping to make a run at GM Dustin Dingles first championship in the league.

Start Weak Come On Strong
After the first two weeks of the season, fans in San Fran had pretty much thrown in the towel and figured this would be just like the last few seasons. Three weeks later, fans are rushing the field to find and grab that towel.

The 49ers lost a heartbreaking one point loss to the Saints with expectations high in week 1. The offense couldn't get going and it ended up costing them an early win, but the one bright spot on offense was Dez Bryant who showed why he was taken #4 overall with over 100 yards recieving. On the other side of the ball the D continued to show what they showed last season, that they know how and can play well.

Week 2 saw the 9ers blowing a 10-0 lead against the Cards to end up losing 20-13. WR Dez Bryant continued his well play with 150 yards recieving. Flacco out, Rivers in, same result. After the game multiple calls were recieved at team headquarters demanding either the resignation or firing of GM Dustin Dingle. Fans went ballistic after finding out that DT Vince Wilfork was dealt to the Redskins following the loss.

With his job on the line Dustin didn't panic but did decide that QB was a glaring issue and they weren't going to get better by going with things that didn't work before. With his job on the line and the team in a downward spiral, in came 6th round pick Juice Williams out of Illinois as the week 3 starter. The team rounded up behind Juice as he managed the game great with 1 passing TD, 2 rushing TDs and 0 INTs in a win that also saw the D picking Tony Romo off 6 times.

Vet WR Terrell Owens was added for week 4 to add some power to the WRs and came up big against the bears pulling in 4 receptions for 66 yards and a TD as him and Juice Williams pulled out another big win against a pretty good team. The team scored 14 points in the 4th to pull their record even at 2-2.

Heading into week 5 against division rival Seattle the fans were feeling better about the team and have grown to love Juice, when back in after being benched comes Philip Rivers. Philip after seeing how Juice was playing and seeing his job on the line went 20-33 for 241 yards, 3 TDs, and only 2 Picks against a very dominate D. Shonn Greene and LT had a combined 188 yards and 2 Tds as the 49ers kept rolling and beat the Seahawks 35-28.

GM Dustin Dingle commented on how his team has played and the reason for the quick rebound. "I think the big reason for the turnaround had been Juice. he lit a fire under this team and we've been riding it ever since. The team went nuts in week 3 after he rushed for 2 TDs and threw for another. On D I think the big thing has been the play of our LBs Adibi already has 4 picks and Conner has 3. I've told this team that we have a great shot at the playoffs this year and if we can just get in we'll have one of those teams that will be a dangerous team when it gets down to one and done."

Week 6 is approaching and San Fran meets another division opponent in the St. Louis Rams and a team that hasn't lost yet. Dustin said that this might be the end of the streak but he just might have one last trick up his sleeve.

Heartbreaking Season has some bright spots.
It's been a very trying time in San Fran but a few of the bright spots have come from their younger players and a vet or 2 that have shown they haven't missed a step

A vet that hasn't shown any signs of slowing down has been DE Charles Grant, the 30 year old end has recorded 12 sacks so far and has been a huge leader on the defensive side of the ball. Add those 12 sacks with 10 TFL and 2 FF and u can't overlook him on a D that has alot of very good younger talent.

This teams young secondary even tho they have given up some yards have shown alot to this team and has a combined 13 picks between them let by CB Mike Jenkins who has 6, opposite him is Terrence Wheatley who has 4 and the safetys Rashad Johnson and William Moore have 2 and 1 respectfully.

OLBs Xavier Adibi and Brian Cushing continue to improve and prove to this team that they belong here for years to come.

On the offensive side of the ball the biggest surprise for the GM Dustin Dingle has been HB Shonn Greene, after drafting him in this past draft to be the franchise HB for the future he had some doubts that they young man could play well enough to start, so he added LT. when LT didn't produce as expected he put the young man in and he has produced. Even tho he hasn't put up the numbers like the top backs in the league he has held onto the ball pretty well for a rookie with only 1 fumble in 182 attempts and has 4 TDs. And even tho hes only averaging 3.49 ypc he has put up 100 yard rushing efforts up against the Rams and the Giants, plus a TD in each of those games. Only 1 rookie HB has more yards and less fumbles then him and he might have a couple hundred more yards if he would have started every game but he didn't take over for LT till week 5.

Michael Crabtree has been a disappointment up until this point in the season but has shown some flashes of playmaker ability over the last 2 weeks he has 10 catches for 214 yards, a TD and 0 drops.

LT Jake Long continues to play ok but not numbers expected out of the #2 overall pick a year ago. The big 6'7 300+ pound tackles seems to not have adjusted completely to the pro game or just don't mesh with the 49ers too well.

Franchise QB Joe Flacco can't stay healthy and has thrown 21 picks over the last 2 years with only 10 TD passes. Rumors out of the team offices have pointed towards a new starting QB coming to town well see if it makes a difference or if theres more problems then just QB.

Rookie P Aaron Perez who was undrafted coming out of college has been another huge surprise with his booming punts and pretty nice accuracy for a rookie punter averaging 44.63 yards a punt his longest going a huge 67 yards and hitting 14 punts inside the 20.

The 9ers are out of the playoff picture and are looking forward to next season. They don't plan on laying down for anyone but they are looking forward to next season with the team they have here, and with 2 1sts and 2 2nd round picks they think they can't bring in the final pieces to lead this team into the playoffs.

49ers deal big piece
after the debacle that was week 1 for the 49ers, they have decided to deal a force on their D, sending DT Tommie Harris to the northeast to play in the AFC East.
