Atlanta to play Spoiler?
Coming into the last week of the season the Atlanta Falcons are riding a 3 game winning streak and are currently the hottest team in the NFC South. Week 17s opponent is looking to clinch a spot in the playoffs but the Dirty Birds are looking to shut them out. With a Win and a Panthers Win the Saints will have to watch the playoffs from home and then Panthers will be in and the Saints out.

While the Falcons have nothing to gain just keeping their winning streak alive is all they are focused on they have closed out the season on a high note and want to keep it that way.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN THE PLAYOFFS

The Lossing Streak is OVER
Atlanta, GA

The game couldnt have started out any worse for the Atlanta Falcons. They fumbled the opening kick off, they miffed a punt, Cutler fumbled and threw a pick all in the first half and all inside atlantas own 30. But thats when what can be called the best part of the Falcons team took the field. They stuffed the Bucs on all 4 drives and held them to field goals. At the end of the Half the score was 12-3, and rookie middle linebacker James Laurinaitis was putting on a tackling clinic having 8 tackles.

I dont know what happened at half time but the offense decided to show up, my guess is that James Laurinaitis went it and slapped the whole offensive line around, as well as new comers Darren Sproals and Jay Cutler. Because on the first drive of the second half the Falcons marched right down the field and scored on a touchdown pass to newly signed TE Derek Schouman. Making the score 12-10 and putting some life into the fans. All was not as planned though as on 3rd and 4 on the Bucs 36 Kevin Smith broke for a 64 yard touchdown run, as they caught the falcons blitzing.

The teams had a little back and forth punts after that with the Falcons squeezing in a FG to make it 19-13, then with under 3 minutes to play the Bucs trying to run out the clock with All world back Adrian Peterson, they handed it off and AP took it up the middle only to meet the best young middle linebacker in the league, James Laurinaitis, who stripped the ball out of APs hands and the Falcons recovered on the Bucs 47.After a couple runs for 9 it was 3rd and 1 falcons new QB Jay Cutler hit Andre Caldwell for a big gain only to have it all brought back on a holding call. Now facing 4th and 11 Cutler tried to rally the troops. Lining up in the shotgun he went back surveyed the field, and throw a deep 30 yard bomb down the middle which at first looked to be incomplete when all of a sudden Caldwell came sliding in for the catch, a couple plays later Cutler through to a wide open Jordy Nelson who ran it into the endzone. With 1:25 left on the clock the defense held the Bus from a first and the Bucs turned it over on downs. the Falcons added a FG and then time ran out during the Kick off to the Bucs.

This is falcons football and they are offically back on the map the lossing streak is over

New Offensive Additions

Jay Cutler 14 of 21 Yards Thrown 198 QB Rating 108.8 with 2 TDs and 1 pick. Though he was sacked 7 times he handled him self very well

Darren Sproals had a so so evening with 21 carries for 63 yards

Derek Schouman 4 Catches for 34 yards with 1 TD

Things are looking up in Atlanta

Is Willie Parker leaving Atlanta?
Atlanta, GA

Rumors are flying out of Falcons Head Quarters that all pro half back Willie Parker has been cleaning out his locker in anticipation of being dealt to a team in the NFC East. GM Omer Mushahwar was asked about this and here is what he had to say, "I love what Willie did during his time here in Atlanta he never quit and he was always asking for the ball, evident in his 68 yard TD run vs the Dallas Cowboys, but after looking at where the roster is going I felt that I owed Willie a chance to win a superbowl while he could still be a major force." With this in mind the Falcons have in principle agreed on a deal with the G-men.

Here is how the deal breaks down

Giants receive

HB Willie Parker
ATL 3rd
STL 3rd

in return the Falcons receive

QB Jay Cutler
HB Darren Sproals
NYG 5th

In all I think this works out for Atlanta, Sproals is a speed demon and can help with fast pass rushes, and Barclay can now be more active in the game plan, Cutler gives the falcons a legitimate QB for next year and he can really help these young wide receivers grow.

This deal comes just days after the Falcons did a little house cleaning cutting a number of players and replacing them with young backups or starters. Needless to say there has been a number of moves made to help this organization get better, lets just hope it plays out on the field.

The winds of change are swirling in Atlanta
AP -

You would think that when you take over a 1-9 team and precede to loss the next game, you simply just quit on the season and go for the number one pick. Not so in Atlanta, new GM Omer Mushahwar is trying in the last few weeks of this season to really put his stamp on the team and change the losing culture that the Falcon's fans have grown accustom to. This week a number of changes to the roster have taken place with about 5 deals completed.

Deal #1

Raiders Send:
LG Cosey Coleman
LG Eric Young
(4) Packers

Falcons Send:
LG Terrence Metcalf
LT Walter Jones

This deal was interesting on a couple fronts the Falcons definitely lose out on a stud at LT in walter jones but improve their LG positions. Most will say Jones was washed up but he played very well and has been a force for many years, I do like this for the Falcons though they do acquire a young LG in Eric Young that can grow with some of the other young lineman and he should be a force in a couple of seasons, Coleman is a slight upgrade over metcalf and the pick helps the falcons look to the future a bit.

Deal #2

Falcons Send:
DT Shaun Rogers
LOLB Reggie Torbor

Redskins Send:
LOLB Marcus Freeman
DT Red Bryant
(3) Redskins

Now this deal defintely hurts the falcons defense up the middle atleast for this season but what is not to love here. Freeman and Bryant are both young and soon to be future stars in the league, the redskins get a down right stud for the middle of their dline, this is one of those rare occasions when the trade is actually a win win for both teams. Great move for both.

Deal #3

Falcons Send:
RE Tyler Brayton
SS Patrick Chung
(2) Falcons

Steelers Send:
LE Chris Long

Im going out on a limb here and saying the raiders may have gotten the better end of this deal. Chung is a stud and the falcons second is really like a late 1st, however you got to respect what Chris long brings to this team a young pass rusher who with teamed with Bryant can form a devastating left side of the Dline looks like Trevor Pryce maybe the next piece to move or he better get use to playing on the Right side of the Dline.

Deal #4

Rams Send:
LG Kirk Elder
DT Terdell Sands
(3) Rams

Falcons Send:
DT Rod Coleman

Youth movement in full affect here, Rod Coleman still has a year or two in the tank and should help the Rams in their playoff push. Terdell Sands has been a solid player Elder was a throw in and the 3rd rounder could come in handy down the round for future deals. GM Omer Mushahwar was quoted as saying, " When I first looked at the roster I looked at all the vets and really felt bad for the situation they were in and I hope that I can move them somewhere that they can make a last run at the ring or at least the last couple runs."

Deal #5

Seahawks Send:
LT Jonathan Ogden
WR Jordy Nelson
(3) Titans

Falcons Send:
WR Jeremy Maclin

Interesting deal here, Ogden has another year on the contract and can help protect the young line, Jordy Nelson is a solid young receiver and the 3rd pick is nice, HOWEVER, the Falcons lose a lot of speed here and I have to say this is one more i dont agree with.

After the dust settled on the ATLANTA roster, it is clear the direction of the team is to get young and stock pile picks the falcons are up to 10 picks now owning

ATL 1st, ATL 3rd, STL 3rd, WAS 3rd, TEN 3rd. ATL 4th, GB 4th, ATL 5-7th

One would think with all the 3rd rounders some more deals are destinted in the future. Time will only tell but for now Falcon's fans can be thankful that they final have a GM who cares about the product being placed on the field.

Falcons New GM, Same old results
ATLANTA

While many believe the Falcons season was pretty much over, one person looks at it as a new beginning. The Falcons announced earlier this week that Omer Mushahwar would be taking over control of football operations. He has a vision for this team and it will soon be realized. The New GM was quoted as saying,"Falcons football use to mean something and it times it did again." bold statements coming from a 1 - 10 team.

When asked about what he thought of his teams lose this week to the Saints he had this to say," While I would have loved for the team to come out and gotten a win against one of the best teams in the league, I thought we were in the game, they had two defensive touchdowns on us, our defense limited their potent offense to 10 points to me thats definitely a building block. The offensive side of the ball well thats a work in progress we got a lot of talented young guys and some grizzled vets and we will work on some things in practice, we were just a few plays here or there from really taking it to the Saints."

The topics then headed towards the inevitable roster movement, with the new GM one can only wonder how much turn over their will be on this roster, rumors are already swirling about a deal with the Rams as well as a number of other teams in the works. One things for sure the falcons are not going to be push overs any more.
