Packers feeling good
After a 4-1 start featuring wins over the Broncos and Lions by 1 point, the Packers were feeling good about their season. In week 5, a 1-3 Buccaneer team got the better end of a 39-23 victory plagued by Packer turnovers (6 of them). This was a crucial game for the Packers as they looked past this game to see 3 straight games against teams who had winning records. If they had a 5-1 record rather than 4-2, getting swept wouldnt have felt catastrophic. However, since they lost to the Buccanners, these next three became highly important. The initial game was against the Carolina Panthers who had only 1 loss on the year and it would stay that way after a 34-24 victory over the Packers. Now at 4-3, the Packers faced a huge game to gain confidence and a win against a division leader. Going into the 4th quarter, the Packers were down 17-14. The final score of the game, 38-17. The Packers used a huge 24 point 4th quarter to get a huge win and move to a lot more manageable 5-3. This wasnt the end of the big games though. Week 10 brought a divisional rival in the Lions to town. The winner of this game would move to 2nd in the division. If that Packers won they would have earned a season sweep of the Lions and a virtual 2 game lead for 2nd. The Packers took advantage of the Lions starting QB Matt Leinart being out and Donavan Mcnabb not throwing any interceptions for the second game in a row to get a 24-7 win and more importantly a 6-3 record. This record gives the Packers a lot of confidence going into a 4 game stretch where the team with the best record is the Chargers at 3-6. GM Eric Wood stresses though that his team cannot overlook any team in this stretch and cannot afford a slipup that could cost his team a playoff chance.
