New season = New expectaions |
Coming into the 2010 season the Steelers are looking for a better season then what they had last year. Already the Steelers are off to a 1-1 start. Last year they started the season 3-0 and ended 5-10-1, GM Aaron Krause says "Were just looking to get to .500 if we can do that then I know that this team is going to do great things in the future." Going into the off season the Steelers were looking to get better in 2 places. 1. the offensive line, "last year they were terrible, letting our QB get sacked not letting our running backs have a chance just plain terrible" says GM Aaron Krause. So the Steelers hit up FA picking up 2 big names, C Matt Birk, and LT Jonathan Ogdon who they converted into a LG. The 2 sofar this season have a combined 21 pancakes and 1 sack allowed. the rest of the team is combined 35 pancakes and 1 sack. So for right now it looks to be like a good pick up for the Steelers.
The 2nd thing the Steelers needed was a better QB, going into the Draft they were looking at Sam Bradford. They new the likeliness it was that he was gunna fall so they went another way, Trading for QB Erik Ainge In two games he is 23 of 60 353 yards 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. "Erik hasnt played as well as we would like starting out the season but he just has to calm down and start being the leader of this team like I know he can be" says Aaron Krause.
The Steelers was also wanting better play out of there DT, They went out and traded for two players Cornelius Griffin, and Larry Tripplett. There combined stats are 9 tackles 2 tackles for a loss and 1 fumble recovery, Most of the load on the DL has been takin by the two ends Calvin Pace and Robert Mathis.
Coming into this new season the Steelers are hoping that they can do better then last year, if they can get to .500 then according to GM Aaron Krause there will be great things to come out of the Pittsburgh Steelers. |

The Draft is over and heres how it went for Pittsburgh |
In round one the Pittsburgh Steelers selected RT Eben Britton out of Arizona
Eben Britton brings alot to the table for Pittsburgh. "We were in need of a really good offensive lineman which i think we got in Eben" says GM Aaron Krause. When Eben was drafted he was brought in to make the offensive line better so that QB Pat White, who is now the starting QB since Tony Romo got relesed, has good protection and LaDainian Tomlison would have a better run blocking core.
In round 2 the Pittsburgh Steelers selected WR Hakeem Nicks out of North Carolina
Before the draft the Steelers were not as strong as they could be at WR. With them bringing in WR Hakeem Nicks they get a very gifted Wideout. "Hakeem has so much potential that its crazy, he can catch he can go up at the highest point and get the ball, hes got okay speed, hes an all around threat" says GM Aaron Krause.
In round three the Steelers where thinkg that they need to bring in someone that can play QB and will be here for a long time. So the Steelers selected QB Pat White out of West Virgina
"Pat is a great addition to this football team" GM Aaron Krause said
Round three the Steelers had an open hole at LG so they wanted to bring someone in that had potential, run block, pass block, strength. The only person that they say fit to those standards was LG Jamie Thomas out of Maryland.
"Thomas is Big and hes going to be a big threat in a few years" gm Aaron Krause said
In the 5th round the Steelers decided to continue there needs at WR so the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted WR Brandon Gibson out of Washington state.
"Brandon...Hes a beast!" GM Aaron Krause said.
Brandon Gibson is 6'1 206lbs hes big he can catch he can jump. Watch out for him. Don't be surprised if he doesn't start a few games this year.
Round 6 was a difficult choice for Pittsburgh. They were torn on what position they wanted to draft. After a long and thoughtful decision they went with WR Austin Collie out of BYU
Austin Collie is another one of those WR that you dont know what to do with, he can run he can catch, hes big. But when GM Aaron Krause drafted Collie he was thinking about him being a well rounded slot receiver who you can put in there on 4th and short and throw it up to him and let him make a play on the ball. "we will see what he can do come preseason" GM Aaron Krause said.
In the 7th round the Steelers already had all the WR they needed. So they thought about another situation FS. With Mike Brown getting old and loosing some of what he had, the Steelers want to bring in a guy they can count on when it comes down to that one play. So they drafted FS DeAngelo Willingham out of Tennessee
With being 5'11 hes not as big of a guy that someone would like. But for the Steelers he is just what they need. "Hes fast and thats what were looking for" said GM Aaron Krause.
With this years draft over with they look to Free Agency and the big names they are trying to get. But when its all said and done, your just gunna have to wait and see what happens during the season and if these players can play. |
